Dana Heller is the new dean of the College of Arts and Sciences.

Getting to know Dean Heller

Dana Heller is the new dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. She is past chair of the Old Dominion University (ODU) Department of English and served as interim dean of the College of Arts and Letters in 2016-2017. Prior to this, she served for 11 years as director of the Humanities Institute and Graduate Program at ODU.

Education: Heller received her bachelor’s degree in English and theatre from Goddard College, in Plainfield, Vt., and a master’s degree in creative writing from Columbia University. She earned her doctorate in English from the Graduate Center of the City University of New York.

Research interests: Cultural studies, LGBTQ studies, international television and film studies, and American studies.

Favorite vacation spot: “Just about anywhere I’ve never seen or been before, especially when it takes me outside of my comfort zone. I love discovering new cities and navigating new cultures, languages and cuisines.”

Last book read: “Going into Town: A Love Letter to New York” (Roz Chast).

Kenneth Lord is the new dean of the College of Business.

Getting to know Dean Lord 

Kenneth Lord is the new dean of the College of Business. He joins Eastern Michigan University from Cal State Northridge, where he served as dean of the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics from 2013 to 2017 and most recently as accreditation advisor and professor of marketing.

Education: Lord received his bachelor’s degree in English and master’s degree in communication from the University of Utah. He earned his doctorate in marketing from The Ohio State University.

Area of expertise: Marketing

Favorite time of year: Fall. “As a New England native, I love the way the northern landscape is transformed with brilliant color and I also enjoy the energy and promise of the beginning of each academic year.”

Last book read: “All Quiet on the Western Front” (Erich Maria Remarque). “Vivid, gripping and emotion-packed read that gave me a new appreciation for the sacrifices of my grandfather and others on both sides of World War I.”
